FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Chesapeake Bay ENT Virginia Sinus Center Keeps People from Emergency Room with Telehealth Visits
In an effort to keep people out of the hospital emergency room, Chesapeake Bay ENT Virginia Sinus Center is offering telehealth visits to current and new patients.

VIRGINIA BEACH, VIRGINIA - Detra R. Safford, COPM, Regional Practice Administrator, said they purchased HIPAA-compliant electronic records software. The software allows them to safely communicate with patients through Zoom, Facetime, and Skype.

The physicians are Dr. Scott Safford and Dr. Kevin Meakin. They are assisted by six ENT Practitioners, each of whom are Board-Certified Physicians Assistants.

Many people who contact the practice, "are concerned they have contracted COVID-19", she said.

One of the symptoms of COVID-19 is a dry cough. Through a series of questions and a visual exam online, the clinician can determine if a person needs to seek further medical assistance.

Many times, their symptoms are due to allergies which are more prevalent during the spring season.

Since Chesapeake Bay ENT Virginia Sinus Center began offering the telemedicine service they’ve "been treating about 20 patients a day", Safford said.

During this time, the practice has been sensitive to their employees with children who are no longer in school due to Gov. Ralph Northam closing schools in March.

"We are offering alternate schedules to our employees. Those with young children can come in later so they can have home school time with them," she said.

To maintain social distancing, there are only three employees in the office at a time. All employees are practicing CDC guidelines by wearing face masks and frequently washing their hands.

Overall, Chesapeake Bay ENT Virginia Sinus Center wants to help patients and the medical community by lessening emergency room visits and putting people's minds at ease, Safford said.

Chesapeake Bay ENT Virginia Sinus Center is the only Hampton Roads ENT practice that offers balloon sinus dilation, an effective sinusitis treatment alternative to medical therapy and surgery. The convenient, comfortable in-office procedure gently restores normal sinus drainage.

In January 2020 Chesapeake Bay ENT opened its sixth ENT office located at One Columbus Center in Virginia Beach Town Center, its second in Virginia Beach.

They also have locations in Belle Haven, Franklin, Suffolk, Churchland (Portsmouth), and Corporate Landing (Virginia Beach).
